Geography of Thailand

Thailand is divided into 5 geographic regions. These 5 regions consist of 76 provinces. These regions are North (consisting of hill tribes, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai), Isaan (consisting of the undeveloped region of north east including the Khmer ruins), Central (consisting of Bangkok, lowlands and historic Thailand), South (consisting of a long coastline and beautiful islands, Krabi, Ko Samui, Phuket and Ko Tao) and East (consisting of mesmerizing beaches and islands along with Pattaya).

Cities in Thailand

Thailand consists of 10 main cities which include Bangkok (lively capital city), Ayutthaya (historical world heritage site), Chiang Mai (north capital where the Lanna culture exists), Chiang Rai (access to Golden Triangle), Hat Yai (largest city in south), Kanchanaburi (popular due to bridge which has been constructed over River Kwai), Nakhon Ratchasima (capital of Issan region), Pattaya (top rated tourist destination), Sukothai (first capital city of Thailand) and Surat Thani (main city of the Srivijaya Empire).

Islands of Thailand

The list of islands and beaches include Ko Lipe (tiny unspoilt island at Tautao National Park which has reefs and stunning beaches), Ko Chang (quiet island with ongoing tourism development going on), Krabi (beach in the south which is popular for water-sports and includes Ko Lanta, Ko Phi Phi and Ao Nang), Ko Lanta (sleepy island with rapid tourism development), Ko Pha Ngan (popular for Moon Party at its coastline), Ko Samet (nearest beach from Bangkok), Ko Samui (popular for its beach parties), Ko Tao (neighbouring island to Samui), Phuket (popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches) and Rai Leh (fascinating beaches with limestone cliffs of Krabi).

National Parks of Thailand

The National Parks of Thailand include Ang Thong National Marine Park, Khao Sok National Park, Ko Phi Phi, Khao Yai National Park, Ko Chang National Park, Tarutao National Park and Similan Islands.
