Since, Indonesia displays a panorama of indigenous and western practices numerous modern day sport activities have also been undertaken by the citizens of Indonesia. Athletes have taken part in the Indonesian Open Badminton Championship, All England Open Badminton Championship and international sport opportunities like Summer Olympics have witnessed great participation by Indonesians. The Indonesian Sport Committee organizes sport events in Indonesia and they promote sports with their motto "Sports for All".
Southeast Asian Games
Jakarta has played host to Southeast Asian Games three times in the years 1979, 1987 and 1997. Indonesians have won gold medals all three years. Indonesia has participated in 15 games and has won 9 gold medals in 9 games. This is a clear indicator of the interest Indonesians have in sports and recreation.
